What is the Good Business Charter?

The UK Good Business Charter is a simple yet comprehensive accreditation scheme recognising organisations for their ethical and responsible business behaviours. Launched in 2020, the GBC has quickly gained traction, with over 144,820 employees across 1,145 organisations across 24 business sectors now accredited.

What does it mean to buy services or goods from a GBC organisation?

The GBC covers 10 key components of responsible business behaviour, listed below. By meeting all these criteria, we demonstrate our comprehensive commitment to ethical practices across all operations.

1. Pay the real living wage

2. Offer fair hours and contracts

3. Care for their employees' wellbeing

4. Ensure there is employee representation

5. Are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion

6. Are seeking to minimise their environmental impact

7. Pay their fair share of tax

8. Are committed to their customers

9. Ethically source their supplies

10. Pay their suppliers promptly

Why We Chose to Renew Our GBC Accreditation

Our decision to renew our GBC accreditation stems from our core values and belief in the importance of responsible business practices. Here's why we continue to support and participate in this initiative:

Credibility and Transparency

The GBC's all-or-nothing accreditation model ensures that accredited organizations meet the criteria for each component[5]. This transparency builds credibility with our stakeholders, including employees, customers, and suppliers.

Alignment with Our Values

The GBC's mission to raise the bar on business behaviour aligns perfectly with our corporate values. It provides a clear framework for communicating our commitment to responsible practices both internally and externally.

What This Means for Our Stakeholders

Our renewed GBC accreditation has significant implications for everyone connected to our organization:

For Our Team

It reinforces our commitment to fair wages, employee wellbeing, diversity and inclusion, and fair hours and contracts. Our team can take pride in working for an organization prioritising their welfare.

For Our Customers

It clearly indicates that we are committed to ethical practices and customer satisfaction. Customers can trust that they support a business that cares about its impact on society and the environment.

For Our Suppliers

Our accreditation includes a commitment to prompt payment and ethical sourcing, fostering stronger, more reliable relationships with our supply chain partners.

For Our Community and Environment

It demonstrates our dedication to environmental responsibility and fair tax practices, showing that we are invested in the well-being of our community and the planet.

How do businesses become accredited with the Good Business Charter?

The application process involves a straightforward online self-certification featuring questions based on ten accreditation components. After reviewing the sector-specific and size-related requirements, applicants can proceed with the self-certification questions. The accreditation fees are intentionally set low to ensure maximum accessibility.

Conclusion

Continuing our journey with the Good Business Charter, we remain committed to upholding and improving our responsible business practices. We believe that prioritizing ethical behaviour contributes to a fairer society and builds a more resilient and successful business.

Our GBC accreditation is more than just a badge—it reflects our values and promises to our stakeholders. We're proud to be part of a movement raising the bar for business behaviour and creating a positive impact on people and the planet.
